Switching litters can feel risky — cats are creatures of habit, and no one wants a boycotted box. The good news: with a gradual approach, most cats make the move to tofu litter without a fuss.
The key is to change one thing at a time. Cats notice texture and smell far more than we do, so an abrupt swap can read as “something’s wrong here.” A slow blend lets them get comfortable at their own pace while you enjoy the fresher home almost immediately.
Start with a simple blend
For the first few days, mix a small amount of Purrfectly tofu litter into your cat’s current litter — roughly one part tofu to three parts old litter. Keep the box in its usual spot and scoop as normal. Your cat gets the familiar feel underfoot with just a hint of the new granules.
Increase the ratio over a week
Every couple of days, shift the balance a little more toward tofu. A typical week looks like this:
- Days 1–2: 25% tofu, 75% old litter
- Days 3–4: 50 / 50
- Days 5–6: 75% tofu
- Day 7+: 100% Purrfectly
If your cat hesitates at any stage, simply hold that ratio for an extra day or two before moving on. There’s no prize for rushing.
Cats rarely resist the litter itself — they resist sudden change. Go slow and let them lead.
Set them up to succeed
Keep the box clean and quiet during the transition, and avoid changing its location at the same time. Scoop daily so the new granules always feel fresh, and resist the urge to switch scents mid-transition — start with Unscented Signature if your cat is sensitive.
Within a week or two, most households are fully switched — with a box that’s easier to clean, lighter to carry, and noticeably less smelly. That’s a win for everyone who lives there.
